More question-answering on my story! Yesterday, I answered:
I also have information regarding the protagonist, and the world as a whole.
I’m willing to answer anything about the story, the characters, the races, religion, the plot (save spoilers) —- really anything you can think of. A lot of the world-building still needs to take place, so questions really help me flesh out little ideas that have been floating about in my brain. :D

Lets do this again! :]
Some additional character development stuff for Rayane:
ASK AWAY (please? D:)
Day 7: What is one event your character would like to erase from their past?
Nyeh. Another I feel I can’t answer. Obviously Rayane would rather her parents didn’t die, but she’s been relatively sheltered so she doesn’t really have anything she wishes she could erase from her past.
Part of me is a little frustrated at this 30 day challenge; it assumes that the character has some sort of past, or has fully explored something, or is present-day (I’ve had a peek at the other questions). Not that it’s bad, I should’ve probably looked before committing this to Zathryn or Rayane in particular, but I feel like such a failure for being unable to make this interesting like it should be. :|
Day 6: Describe your character’s happiest memory.
Hm. Honestly, I’ve never thought of this. Let’s see if I can make something up on the fly.
Rayane’s happiest memory is the day of her 25th birthday (about eight, in human lifespans). Her mother was out to war, yes, but her Aunt got leave from the Chieftain to attend her birthday celebration. It was a small, private affair - her Aunt, her father, and a few of her friends sat around for story time, whilst her father cooked a special lunch - a really rare treat, a large animal [to be determined] that was normally found on the borders of the Elves’ territory.
It never occurred to Rayane until long after her father’s passing the amount of danger he put himself in to acquire this treat, just because of her. When she first realised it, it was a sad thought; over time, it became a happy memory as it reminded her just how much she meant to her father.
Anonymous asked: Show me your genitals! Your genitals!
Jon Teagan: My genitals? You want to see my genitals? Well… okay, if you insist. I know it must be really difficult for people to control their desire to see them, so I’ll oblige. I’ll have to ask for an ear in payment, though. See, that’s my thing. I like ears. I have a whole collection of them, pinned up like butterflies in display cases. After I show you my genitals, would you like to see where your ear will go?
Sounds fun, yes? Come at me, siblings.
What is your character’s ranking on the Kinsey Scale?
This is a difficult one for me to answer. I don’t really think the Kinsey Scale is very comprehensive, for starters, nor do I think that it applies to Rayane. Asexuality and Pansexuality, apparently, are not part of the Kinsey Scale - I’m leaning more towards asexuality for Rayane. Not only would it suit her personality better, but it would also fit in with the mating traditions of her people; strictly heterosexual in terms of breeding, but outside of that if the individual has no desire to reproduce, there’s no requirement to. Due to their long life span, there’s no rush to sire offspring. Additionally a male is always virile after his 100th year, and a female is able to mate between years 100 and 600.
I’ve kind of digressed from sexuality here, but the long and sort of it is that Rayane doesn’t fit on the Kinsey scale at this point in time, as I’m thinking she will be asexual (though this doesn’t necessarily mean romance is out of the question [though I’d like to have a female protagonist with no romance or sexual encounters (it’s such an over played trope)]).
vanessacsketch asked: Got any specific examples of magic spells? Look, I just like magic is all. :)
Ahahahahaha. xD
Like I touched on previously, magic, save Illusions, is less about spells and more about concentrating to alter states of being.
One “spell” that we’ll come across early on is a conjured blade. Rayane uses various accessories that she was taught were vital in conjuration — however, a lot of what is being “taught” as magic the world over is incorrect, or has an altered history (which I really can’t get into because spoilers).
Rayane uses a lot of ritualistic steps in conjuring this sword. She creates a circle, reciting an incantation. As she speaks, a fire lights along the path she traces in the dirt. She adds some herbs to the fire, which give the flames a green hue. She splits the circles with more lines, creating triangles within, and fire follows these trails as well.
She recites another incantation, and concentrates on bringing out her power, which after some exertion on her behalf results in the conjured blade.
Now, it’s taught that these incantations and herbs and rituals are required for the “spells” to work, but in reality it’s much more simple. These are merely tools used to draw the person’s focus, and over time developed into an integral part of magic studies.
We will meet a character early on who is quite adept at using magic without these “crutches” for focus. It baffles the people he meets, and gives him a very mysterious and somewhat menacing air.
Another example I can think of are those “traps” I spoke of in the last magic question. Essentially, the spell caster will concentrate on “weaving” their magic into surroundings — or in the case of more skilled casters, into “nets” of pure power — with different effects based on the desires of the caster. Most casters skilled in this sort of battle magic need a totem to channel their concentration.
I’m not sure if I’m making a whole lot of sense, ahaha. xD

Day 4: How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive?
Physical vanity, as such, does not exist among the Dragonkin. Looks aren’t required to attract a mate — mating is based on contribution: mates are picked based on how skilled they are in their respective ventures. To outsiders, Dragonkin all look alike, barring scars on experienced warriors, or scale-colour. Amongst themselves, there are subtle nuances they recognise in each other’s faces, builds, stances.
Rayane doesn’t find herself “attractive”, as such. However, she currently does not consider herself mate-worthy as she in unproven, and by all accounts, “too young”.
